Is the Work worth the Money?

We were a part of a group photo shoot (a photo walk) and it happened to us that there were only one model and 13 photo enthusiasts. While the model was killing it (in a good and great way), we, the 13, struggled to first find a place to get a good angle of the model/subject, and then after somehow we managed that, the next challenge was to make sure we don’t have other people’s head/elbow/ears/fingers/hair etc. in the frame. Not an easy task at all :D

We joined the action of fighting for a place to get whatever angle and shots we think would make the photo look good but what do you think would be the best way to take pictures wherein there are so many people along with you to take the shot? Hmmmmm. It has to be fast shutter and continuous shots. We started shooting at 1/2000th of a second with continuous shots, and you know what happens when you do that? Your camera starts making sounds like an automatic machine gun in a shooting range :D

While most of the group didn’t care about it, some felt it was sort of disturbing their moment or whatever, but yeah we could hear people saying “WTH! Why are these people shooting at continuous shutter and at that high speed”? “Is he like trying to get whatever pics he can”? “Does he even know what he is doing”? When we finished the shoot, we started showing the shots which each of us had taken. The shots looked well exposed, but something was missing. It isn’t that great. It’s a naaah!! It’s just cool looking shots. What’s so great about taking such pics?

There is some great skill, vision and technical execution behind this. Why? Because people didn’t understand the vision based on which we took the pictures. I am sure even you would not too until we see the before and after pics.

Don’t believe us, check this out!

A Sparta on a trail? That just doesnt look good for sure!

What good is a Sparta, on a hiking trail? I mean yeah, the shot looks great! but does it go with the very basic idea of this cosplay outfit, the body build, and language (we all agree he has got a damn good body), The pose? I am sure your answer would a NO-NO, and so it was for us as well.

How about we :

  1. Add some drama- like on barren land with storm, lightning, and hurricane

  2. Apply cinematography ideas and color grading and setting up the right mood

  3. Utilize some of the Photoshop and other post editing techniques using tools which we have taken a lot of Time, Practice and Patience to Master!

ShootmeDash did just what they have been recognized in the Industry, in this genre of photography, which is called “composites” and we truly believe we are the pros in and around Memphis area and you can reach out to for photography needs. However coming back from our sales pitch which we just pitched in unintentionally :D , here is how the final image of the above original image got published to the market:

Are we deviating from the actual agenda of this blog i.e. “Is the work worth the money”? We don’t think so. We just managed to show you what elements we added into the original picture to make it look stunning and absolutely in context to the subject. Our question here is how many photographers can do this for you?

”Yeah, Yeah! But how about pre wedding? Do I need that much of post processing as that shown above.“

Absolutely! In fact, if you want to fall in love every time you see your photo and that’s what always is the vision of the photographer. If you can fall in love with your Picture/Photo/Memory every time you look at it, that’s the VALUE there! In fact you would feel like you got more value than you had expected!

Let’s look at another original shot straight from the camera:

Pre wedding photo - Memphis, Mud island 2020

Let’s be really honest here: We think this is a stunning capture straight from the camera. The couple is placed perfectly on the rule of thirds (look it up if you don’t understand, it actually looks better), the sunlight is falling from the left on the subject, and to adjust the shadows on the other end, we light up our newer 32 inch soft box with a Goddox tt600 flash, providing just the right amount of light ratio required for a good composition. Also to add to it, the camera was placed on the surface to get a pattern of the wall running towards the subject to gain viewers’ attention and of course the iconic Mississippi River Bridge in the background. Love it!

However, how about we make it more romantic? Set up the right mood which is love, add some drama, this time not with a lot of items like cyclones, thunderstorms, etc.  (which would be absolute garbage), but with just a simple romantic sky??

We did that and the client just fell in love with it. And our appreciators around the world showed their immense love for our mastery in photography on Instagram, Facebook and through our website.
